Network Status

Illinois Century Network – Maintenance Notification – Friday, October 6, at 11:00PM and Sunday October 8, at 6:00AM

The Illinois Century Network (ICN) will perform network maintenance this weekend as follows:

Friday, October 6, starting at 11:00PM – Engineers will be adding additional redundancy to our core hardware serving the ICN K12 Broadband Network. K12 customers will experience a brief interruption of service during this maintenance.

Sunday, October 8, starting at 6:00AM – Software updates will be pushed to SDWAN hardware serving the ICN K12 Broadband Network located at customer sites. There will be a brief interruption of service during this maintenance as the hardware is reloaded.

Network Maintenance Scheduled 09/15/2023 @11:00PM
The Illinois Century Network (ICN) will perform network maintenance starting on Friday September 15 at 11:00PM. The work will provide additional backbone redundancy for the ICN K12 Broadband Network. K12 schools will experience a short interruption of service during the maintenance window of 11:00PM to 1:00AM.

Network Outage Update 09.05.2023 3:00PM
Many K12 schools experienced network slowness this morning due to a hardware service failure serving the ICN K12 Broadband Network. A security configuration change was made Friday night to add additional security measures to the network which appears to have resulted in key hardware CPU failure once school resumed this morning and bandwidth demand reached normal levels. The change was reversed and service restored.

The Illinois Century Network (ICN) will perform network maintenance on Friday August 4, 2023 starting at 11:00PM. The maintenance is to upgrade our core equipment which serves our K12 Schools and Libraries. The upgrade will require a reboot which will cause an interruption of service. Maintenance is expected to last 60 minutes.

AT&T is experiencing an outage on a 100Gbps collector impacting ICN connectivity for multiple K12 Schools in the Chicago area. ICN staff are working with AT&T to restore service.

Network Maintenance 08/05/2023@11:00PM
The Illinois Century Network (ICN) will perform network maintenance on Saturday, August 5, 2023, starting at 11:30PM. The maintenance will upgrade necessary software on one of the ICN distribution routers which serves the K12 Broadband Network. K12 schools connecting to this router will experience an interruption of service while the router is rebooted. Maintenance is expected to last 40 minutes.

The Illinois Century Network (ICN) will perform network maintenance on Friday July 28, 2023 between 11:00PM and 1:00AM. The maintenance is to upgrade our core equipment which serves K12 and Library customers. The upgrade will require a reboot which will cause an interruption of service for approximately 15 min.

The maintenance will upgrade necessary software on one of the ICN distribution routers which serves the K12 Broadband Network. K12 schools connecting to this router will experience an interruption of service while the router is rebooted. Maintenance is expected to last 40 minutes.

Network Maintenance
ICN engineers will perform network maintenance on Saturday April 22, 2023, starting at 11:00PM. A software upgrade will be installed on the SDWAN hardware located at schools participating in the DoIT K-12 Consortium Broadband Network. There will be a 10-minute interruption of service during the upgrade. Maintenance will be complete by 11:59PM. Should you experience any connectivity problems after the maintenance, please contact our Network Operations Center (NOC) at 312.814.3648 Option 2 or 217.524.3648 Option 2.

ICN experienced an outage at a cross-connect with Metro
Communications in Champaign today between 9:00AM and 9:45AM. This affected all sites connected behind that device. Removing a fiber signal attenuator cleared the issue.

AT&T has a collector circuit down which serves multiple ICN customers in the Chicago area. AT&T is working to resolve the issue. All services restored by 8:00AM.

ICN experienced an outage that impacted customers in the Chicago area between 9:22AM to 9:44AM. Services have been restored.

Springfield ICN customers may have experienced an interuption of service between 12:00PM to 1:00PM due to a power outage at our Springfield POP facility. All services have been restored.

AT&T reported that several 100G collector circuits bounced causing an interruption of service for multiple ICN connected schools and libraries. All services were restored by 8:00PM.

AT&T reports having replaced hardware which has resolved their collector circuit problems. All ICN connections have restored and should be stable. Please contact our NOC to report any problems.

AT&T has been experiencing some technical problems on several of their 100Gbps collector circuits which has caused an interruption of service for some ICN customers. AT&T continues to work to resolve the issues.  We will update this page as we receive new information.
