Illinois Digital Government Summit

The purpose of the Illinois Digital Government Summit is to foster discussion and dialogue on the use of information technology as a strategic tool for managers, executives and policy makers. Over 200+ state and local government executives and IT managers attended the event to discuss new technologies and best practices to address priority issues. During the summit Lori Sorenson and Hardick Bhatt provided informative presentations.

In today’s world the information highway is an important as our physical highway systems, and it is an essential element of the Governor’s priorities in economic development, education and healthcare. Like most states, Illinois has been relatively underserved by broadband availability. Lori provided an inspiring update on current initiatives and opportunities and how they will change the face of the state.

The cloud is all about speed, scalability, and affordability. Is it the solution for everything? Probably not. But it could be the solution for any one thing, and we don’t know until we look. Sean's presentation was the rationale behind the state’s Cloud First approach. It requires agencies to evaluate cloud options before committing to new IT or telecom investments.
